The ball mill is suitablefor grinding a variety of ores and other materials and is widely used inmineral processing, building materials and chemical industries. It can bedivided into dry and wet grinding methods.

The support of the ball mill is subjected to the load of theentire swivel portion, the grinding body and the material during movement or atrest. The bearings of the mill are one of the main parts that determine safeproduction, easy maintenance and energy savings.

The working characteristics of the mill support device are asfollows: First, the load that it bears is heavy, and it has certain vibration.Second, the rotational speed of the hollow shaft is low. Third, the workingenvironment of the mill is bad, and the dust is large. Therefore, whendesigning the mill support device, it is necessary to consider not only thecontinuous operation of the mill, but also to reduce the power consumptionbetween the hollow shaft and the spherical tile due to friction, and to preventdust from entering.

The support device of the mill can be divided into the followingforms: main bearing support, shoe support, and roller support. The main millbearing is generally supported by two types, rolling bearings and plainbearings. It is possible to use the rolling bearing on a small mill, and thereason why the large-scale mill does not use the rolling bearing is that theprocessing cost of the single piece is high, and the processing precision ofthe part matching with the bearing is also high, and the installation andmaintenance of the rolling bearing is difficult. And the rolling bearing has alimited service life and requires a circulating oil supply system forfiltration and cooling. Therefore, in general larger mills do not use suchbearings but use plain bearings.

The sliding bearings of the mill can be classified into two types,namely the main bearing with a hollow journal and the shoe bearing, accordingto its structure.

1.Main bearing: The main bearing of the grinding mill bears theweight of the entire rotating part of the mill. It is generally composed ofbearing bushes, bearing bases, bearing covers, lubrication and cooling systems.It is characterized by large size, heavy weight and heavy load. It adoptsself-aligning device to ensure the straightness of the mill.

2. Sliding bearing: The two ends or one end of the mill are notsupported by the usual main bearing, but are supported by the sliding shoes.The advantage is that the shoe that supports the mill belt can have two, threeor four, so its structure is not only suitable for small and medium sizedmills, but also not limited by specifications, it can also be used onsuper-sized mills.

Due to the strict requirements on the processing accuracy androughness of the wheel belt and the shoe, the shoe bearing has a higher costthan the main bearing. Sliding bearing structure and maintenance is morecomplex, once a fault in the system, requiring timely discovery and repair,otherwise it will affect the normal operation of the entire mill, therefore,the installation of appropriate monitoring and automatic control instruments.
